Business for the Social Good: Patrick Andrews at TEDxWhitechapel

video thumbnail
In this creative and humorous talk, Patrick Andrews calls for the importance of human values at the core of business. How can we re-design businesses so that they take into account the needs of the bulk of humanity and of the planet? What if we could consciously design organisations to encourage responsible business? Could we design organisations that promote human flourishing, planetary health and social justice?

Patrick Andrews's restless spirit has led him on an eventful life journey that has given him an understanding of life and business from multiple perspectives. At one point he had a high flying role in large-scale corporate mergers and acquisitions, these days he works with pioneering social enterprises exploring new approaches to law and business. He seeks out projects that get to the root of things and dare to ask big questions.
Patrick is on the board of Riversimple, an eco-car company that aims to re-invent the auto industry. Under Patrick's guidance Riversimple has adopted an innovative governance structure designed to balance and serve the interests of all involved, challenging the mindset that places shareholders at the top of the corporate tree.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
