When a #narcissist loses control over you, they often experience rare moments of #lucidity where their #facade briefly falls away. During these fleeting instances, you may glimpse the lost, wounded part of them they work so hard to keep hidden behind their false #self.

Seeing beneath their bravado can be shocking after experiencing years of their #manipulation and #exploitation. The #narcissisticmask slips and you connect with the vulnerable humanity of the broken person behind it. But they quickly suppress these glimpses behind their egoic illusion again.

As you establish #boundaries and halt the #narcissistsupply, their persona becomes erratic. The #scriptflips from attacks to rare #vulnerability. Love bombing resumes to win back control. They may confess how terrified they are to be alone and expose their intrinsic #selfloathing.

This is why #nocontact devastates narcissists - it means relinquishing their #source of #egovalidation and #externalregulation. Losing their #supplytriggers primitive fears of abandonment and causes identity #destabilization.

During moments of lucidity, the #narcissist lets down their guard and you see their sadness and #emptiness. But even expressions of remorse are usually manipulations to hook you back in rather than authentic change. Their #introspection is transient - they are too afraid to confront themselves.

When narcissists lose control of a relationship, they feel intensely #powerless and #discarded. This provokes #narcissisticrage and #vengefulness. But underlying their #vindictiveness is core #shame and #selfloathing. Their attacks on you are really projections of how they feel about themselves deep down.

Often narcissists slowly #devalue former targets once it’s clear they cannot get control back. Their frail #ego cannot bear the reminder of someone seeing through their #falseself, so they invalidate and discard former #supplysources.

Losing control over you is a massive blow to the narcissist’s grandiose #fantasy. During moments of lucidity, you may see cracks form in their delusional persona. But the #narcissist cannot bear too much reality, so they quickly revert to #projection and #idealization to stabilize their fragile self-concept.

While glimpses beneath the mask can stir #compassion, remember the narcissist’s periods of #selfreflection are ephemeral. They are too afraid to confront their inner demons. Do not let moments of humanity lure you back into the #cycleofabuse. Stay centered in your own healing.
