What Composting my Underwear Taught Me | Nicola Turner | TEDxRuakura |

Most of us want to be more sustainable, but in our busy lives it can feel too hard, too time-consuming or simply, a drag. In this entertaining and optimistic talk, Nicola Turner suggests we just haven’t seen a version of sustainability we can relate to. She flips the push for consumption to show how being more mindful can increase our time, improve our wellbeing and take better care of the planet, all while having fun.
There’s a trillion-dollar marketing industry convincing us to buy and consume more; make your lashes longer, family more attractive and lives 86.4% better!* Nicola reverses the marketing to show us the alternative of "mindful consumption". This is a version of consumption which is better for our own wellbeing and the wellbeing of the planet. It’s a practical path to make sustainability appealing to the mainstream. *Results may vary After a career in the global consumer goods industry, Nicola Turner has learned far too much about our shopping habits and how to make us consume more. Her life was set on a different trajectory with a personal quest to live more lightly on the planet. And now in a weird twist of irony she uses her understanding of shopper behaviour to get us to buy and consume less. From the food we eat to the clothes we wear and the way we get around - it’s all about mindful consumption and it's better for our own wellbeing and the wellbeing of the planet.
