The Dana Fishing Boat is one of the least expensive beginning ship model kits from Billing Boats. It is a 1/60-scale model of a Danish fishing ketch that features a plastic hull and a simple ketch rig, making an ideal kit for the beginner.

Even though a beginner's kit, it's also an ideal small project for experienced modelers who want to build something relatively simple. Though not designed for RC operation, some modelers have even managed to make this into a micro-RC boat.

Those familiar with Billing Boats kits are already aware that the instructions included with their kits are very bare-bones. This can come as somewhat of a shock to the beginner. But, in this case, with the simplified hull construction, this kit serves as a pretty good introduction to the way of Billing Boats. And, there are plenty of online model forums these days to find some extra help if you get stuck.

On this particular model, I made a few modifications to the build such as using wooden blocks instead of the included plastic ones. I also cut a sub-deck from thin plywood as a base for the deck planking, which allowed me to lay the planks straight, without having to deal with the molded deck houses and bulwarks getting in the way.
