Cyrus Jirongo is bankrupt

Former Presidential Aspirant, Shakhalaga Cyrus Jirongo, is officially bankrupt. Jirongo was this afternoon declared unable to fulfill his financial obligation by the court, after a protacted battle. Justice Olga Sewe of the Commercial Division of the Milimani court, found that he his unable to pay debts amounting to 700 million shillings.


Businessman Sammy Kogo, through his eight companies, petitioned the court seeking the bankruptcy order be issued against Jirongo, and was granted on the 29th of last month. Jirongo had secured a bank loan from the National Bank of Kenya, using properties belonging to Kogo, but he failed to repay the loan.

The bank moved in and sold the properties held as security in 2009. Further, Jirongo entered an agreement in 2013 to pay 700 million shillings value of the properties, that were to be sold by the bank through public auction if he defaulted. He failed to honor the agreement within the stipulated period, causing the appropriator of the properties to institute court proceedings against him. Jirongo failed to appear in court or file a defense.
