With many parts of the world facing closures again amid a resurgence of COVID-19 cases, WHO said they're aiming for 2 billion doses of a COVID-19 vaccine by the end of next year through their COVAX facility.
During Friday's briefing, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus urged countries that have not yet joined the COVAX facility to do so, adding that they're currently facing a funding gap of $35 billion and called that a "bargain" compared to what some countries are spending themselves to fight COVID-19. Currently, almost 200 vaccine candidates are under different phases of testing, but there is no guarantee a single vaccine will work.
