Today we drove the prius in 0°F weather and use the engine to heat the cabin for a while on the highway.

The engine acts like it is in hybrid mode once we slow down on the high way. It seems to get stuck in engine mode if you never let off the gas on the highway.

Once you let off the gas it goes into a mega hybrid mode where it will only turn the engine on and off to keep the cabin warm.

The engine turns on around 115°F and off around 130°F

The whole drive I had the heat set to 64-70°F and was very comfortable.

So far I have found 66°F does just fine for me most days as long as I set it to blow on feet and face and not full auto which tends to just blow on feet and sometimes defroster.
