Arminius: Rome’s German Menace |
|
Arminius was a German tribal leader who ruled at a time when Germany was threatened by the expansion of Rome. He was raised as a hostage in Rome and learned how Roman society worked, and when he returned to Germania, he knew that he needed to stop Roman expansion at all costs. Earning trust with the Roman army, he led three legions to a devastating trap in the Teutoburg Forest that resulted in the end of Roman ambitions to conquer Germania. This victory is widely seen as one of the most decisive battles in history.
