The sprawling lawns at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) here has been done-up to offer a carnival-like atmosphere for the Northeast Festival that was inaugurated on Friday evening.

The event is being organised in collaboration with Trend MMS, a not-for-profit organisation supported by Northeast MPs’ Forum to connect people and celebrate life.

There are stalls selling handloom products, spices, tea, and other products from Manipur, Meghalaya, Assam, Tripura, Nagaland, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram.

The festival, which is on till November 10, will have a host of cultural performances in the evening and a day-time festival featuring music, dance, traditional sports, photography, painting, fashion and film.

Besides these, there will be a host of discussions and talks on a number of topics dealing with investment and issues are faced by the Northeast States.

Speaking at the inauguration, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region General (Retired) V.K. Singh said the Northeast was the most beautiful place in the country and its future depended on how people from the region chose to tackle their problems and resolve it in Delhi.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju said every State in the country should get equal importance, and that it must not feel as if Delhi is the centre of the country. Every border State should feel like it can contribute immensely to the country

A huge draw at the festival is a food court selling items unique to the Northeast region. Delicacies made from fish and pork using ingredients typical of the region are sure to offer foodies in Delhi a unique experience.
