Are you planning to travel Switzerland and are curious about what is the best travel experiences in Switzerland and what to do in the Swiss Alps? My travel diary on what to do in Switzerland in Summer will provide some inspiration. Lauterbrunnen and the surrounding villages of Mürren, Gimmelwald, Wengen and Grindelwald in the Bernese Oberland in Switzerland certainly were on my travel bucket list for quite a while and I was thrilled to finally go there. Lauterbrunnen with its magestic Staubbach Falls, the highest waterfalls in Switzerland, is truly one of the best places to visit in Switzerland. In this video I will talk a bit about my first impressions and provide some background and hopefully useful tips for your Switzerland travel to Lauterbrunnen.

Lauterbrunnen valley may well be the most beautiful valley in Switzerland, and perhaps in all of Europe. You may have seen pictures of this UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site on Instagram and elsewhere and the reality is just as beautiful, if not more so.

Lauterbrunnen is at the center of the deep valley that is so famous for its majestic jagged vertical cliffs, gigantic rock faces and amazing views of the snow capped mountain peaks of the Jungfrau region. The scenery all over the lush green valley with its many trees and wild flowers is simply breathtaking and no words do it justice. With its over 70 waterfalls, Lauterbrunnen Valley is one of the biggest nature conservation areas in Switzerland. The valley consists of six villages that are all worth a visit in their own right, Lauterbrunnen, Wengen, Stechelberg, Gimmelwald, Mürren and Isenfluh. In this Switzerland travel video I am going on a travel walking tour though the village of Lauterbrunnen, heading to the famous Staubbach Falls that are coming down from a whopping 300 meter (close to 1000 ft) high cliff just behind the village. The village of Lauterbrunnen is not very expansive and it should not take you more than an hour to explore the small cluster of streets that are dotted with souvenir and sporting good shops, cafes, restaurants, bed and breakfasts, chalets and hotels.

Lauterbrunnen is a great starting point for travelers that venture out into the valley and the surrounding mountain villages and that offer winter sports during the winter months and amazing hiking trails in the summer. Lauterbrunnen is also a great location for paragliding and skydiving and you can book tours for tandem jumps in the village.

So what’s my conclusion of my walk through Lauterbrunnen? Well, if you plan on visiting Switzerland, make sure to include Lauterbrunnen, Staubbach Falls, the whole Lauterbrunnen valley and the surrounding Jungfrau region in your travel plans. It’s a once-in-a-lifestime experience and if it’s not on your travel bucket list yet, you may want to think about adding it.
