Reliance Jio and Facebook entered into a big deal that would revolutionize the digital market sphere of India. Telecom giant and technology giant joined their hands in the field of jiomart which would provide digital services to small Kirana shops in our country through WhatsApp.

WHY Facebook Chose Jio?
1. Jio has the largest telecom platform through which WhatsApp wants to expand its services in the grocery and media sector in India where they have the largest WhatsApp subscriber base.
2. Whatsapp Pay is facing entry barriers in the Indian market and it would be easy through this deal.
3. Jiomart launched a grocery online platform that will link all Kirana shops under one platform through the use of WhatsApp mechanism.
4. Major e-commerce platforms like Amazon, Flipkart will face tough competition as they only cater 10% market in the grocery sector and jiomart will cater the rest 90%.

Benefits of jio-Facebook deal
1. It will give priority to small Kirana shops that were facing tough competition from the online market.
2. It would be very accessible for small retailers as everyone uses WhatsApp.
3. It will give a push to India's digital India campaign and help the Indian economy to recover the post-pandemic crisis.
4. It will help in researching cryptocurrency which would diminish the use of black money.
5. To expand its services, Jio will initially provide lucrative offers to customers.

Negatives of this deal
1. Data privacy will be under threat.
2. In the long run, they will charge commissions as did by Reliance Jio and other platforms like Zomato and Amazon.
3. It will create a monopoly situation in the telecom sector as Vodafone and Airtel are already facing huge losses.
