Newton was India’s official entry at the 90th Academy Awards (the Oscars) in the ‘Best Foreign Language Film’ category. ECI appoints renowned Indians as National Icons to encourage voter participation. In the past, notable figures like Pankaj Tripathi, Sachin Tendulkar, M.S. Dhoni, Aamir Khan, and Mary Kom have held this role. Sachin Tendulkar was the most recent addition to the list.
