* Some activists at the Gender-Based Violence and Femicide Summit have accused President Cyril Ramaphosa of not understanding the plight of sex workers. The President delivered the keynote address at the Summit in Midrand in the north of Johannesburg yesterday 01 November 2022. Last month, a 21-year-old man was arrested after the discovery of six bodies believed to be those of sex workers found in a building in Johannesburg. Activists believe that legalising sex work would assist victims of gender-based violence to report instances of abuse to the police.

* The inquiry into Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane's fitness to hold office continues today 02 November 2022. Mkhwebane has once again expressed her reservations about how parliament is handling the inquiry. She was reflecting on parliament's decision to press ahead with the hearing following her legal team's withdrawal from the proceedings. Meanwhile the chairperson of Section 194 inquiry, Richard Dyantyi has dismissed Mkhwebane's assertions about his handling of the hearing.

* The Bhisho High Court in the Eastern Cape is expected to make a ruling today on the application filed by the accused in the Mandela Funeral Scandal to bar the state from introducing new evidence during the trial. The defence team says the disclosure of evidence should have happened before the trial had commenced and that the timing of the disclosure puts them in a difficult position to prepare and challenge the evidence. The defence team also questions the admissibility of the evidence that has been given by some of the witnesses.
