Argentina fans danced and sang as they spilt out of Lusail Stadium following their country's victory over the Netherlands in Doha's Lusail Stadium on Friday night.
Argentina fans are going to savour reaching the World Cup semifinals, with star player Lionel Messi’s quest to win football’s ultimate prize still alive.
"The game was amazing," Argentina fan Petar Bekjarovski said.
"That's why we came, to take the cup," Lola Douek, an Argentina fan holding an inflatable World Cup, said.
Argentina beat the Netherlands 4-3 in a penalty shootout Friday, with Messi converting his attempt and Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez making two saves.
"I'm devastated. I think it was nice that we came back, but, you know, in the extra time, I think we lost it a little bit," Netherlands fan Jarno Talens said, before making reference to his team's poor historical record in penalty shootouts.
The match finished 2-2 and was only taken to extra time after the Netherlands equalized in the 11th minute of second-half stoppage time with the second of substitute Wout Weghorst’s two goals.
Before that, Messi had set up the opening goal by Nahuel Molina in the 35th before converting a penalty to make it 2-0.
Argentina will play Croatia in the semifinals on Tuesday after the 2018 runner-up beat Brazil earlier Friday.
It is only the second time Argentina has reached the last four since 1990.
In 2014, Messi was part of the team that lost to Germany in the final.
