10 Weird Sea Creatures You Should NEVER Touch |
![]() |
If you’ve ever gone snorkeling or diving, you’d relate to the overwhelming urge to touch every other weird-looking reef or sea creature that you come across. The engrossing colors, the unique textures, everything makes you want to give it a closer look! But of course, you can’t possibly make a bigger mistake than judge an animal – especially an aquatic one – by its appearance. Sometimes, the most attractive-looking creatures turn out to be the deadliest! In fact, many experts would tell you that bright-colored animals are often the ones that need to be avoided at all costs because the colors are nature’s way of indicating all the possible dangers that are associated.

The reason behind its name is pretty self-evident: the vibrant greens and blues of the exoskeleton of the peacock mantis shrimp set it apart from pretty much all other sea creatures, making it one of the most distinct animals found underneath the sea! Looking at its vivid colors might make one want to touch it, but you have to be careful around this unique creature. It may look friendly but keep in mind that the shrimp is known for its hunting behavior! They use their front appendages to kill and break apart their prey by punching in rapid motions, a technique that makes other, smaller creatures quite scared of them. Frogfish For underwater divers, coming across this bizarre creature isn’t exactly rare but being able to recognize it despite its incredible camouflaging abilities is certainly not something everyone can do! Frogfishes are strong yet lumpy marine animals with unusually large mouths and super rough skin. Their exterior surface is so prickly that if someone has the misfortune of touching the Frogfish, they might end up having severe rashes on the skin! Frogfish are not problematic creatures because they typically lie quietly on the bottom or crawl slowly using their limb-like pectoral fins. What makes them dangerous, however, is the fact that it’s nearly impossible to tell when there’s a frogfish around because of their flawless ability to blend in with the surroundings!
