Johnny Newman Hornets 24pts (11/14 FG) vs Bullets (1993) |
|
November 19 1993
29 year old Johnny Newman on his way to 24 points only misses 3 field goal attempts. The 16 year NBA veteran stuck around for his ability to put the ball in the hoop, even though he was never the tallest, strongest, or most skilled player out on the court. Newman was regarded as a great shooter, but in this game most of his points came in the painted area. As shown in this video, Newman utilized his basketball smarts to remain on the floor deep into his 30s. In college, Johnny Newman led his Richmond Spiders to an upset over the high-seeded Auburn Tigers (led by Charles Barkley) in the 1984 NCAA Tournament. He would lead Richmond back to March Madness in 1986 as well, and graduated the leading scorer in Richmond's basketball history. One of the A-10 conference's greatest players in its history of existence. |
