Manchester United weigh up move for 33-year-old Serie A forward

Manchester United are keen to sign Bologna striker Marko Arnautovic to bolster their frontline this summer.

According to Calciomercato, Premier League giants Manchester United are showing interest in making a move for Bologna striker Marko Arnautovic in the ongoing summer transfer window.

The Red Devils appointed Erik ten Hag as their new manager at the end of the 2021/22 campaign and are on the cusp of another new dawn. They take on Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday in their Premier League opener.

Manchester United have made several transfer moves this summer, improving their defence and midfield. One aspect of their squad that needs improving upon is the frontline which lacks strength in depth.

Cristiano Ronaldo is still at the club despite his future being far from certain. Anthony Martial is an alternative and has impressed so far in pre-season. However, the Frenchman is injured and will miss the match against Brighton.

While Ronaldo could still start upfront, Martial’s setback exposes the Red Devils’ lack of options upfront. It makes sense that they are actively pursuing an addition to the department, with Benjamin Sesko emerging as one of their targets.

The latest name to be linked with a move to Old Trafford is that of Marko Arnautovic. The 33-year-old is a shrewd operator with plenty of experience to boot. More so, he also has Premier League experience having represented both Stoke City and West Ham United for over six seasons.

Despite not being young anymore, he will give the Red Devils an experienced option who can make the most of his opportunities. A good finisher who is also dependable in the air, he could act as a battering ram that can come off the bench to prise open stubborn defences.

Arnautovic is reportedly intrigued by the prospect of moving to the Theatre of Dreams. It gives him an opportunity to make a huge move in his career and potentially end it on a high. While the Austrian is not the most excitable of additions, it would do for the time being.

Given Manchester United’s desperation for a striker, it is apparent that other clubs can hold them hostage in transfer negotiations. Bringing in a short-term solution before going in for a marquee signing next summer could be the right way forward. Bologna are not keen to lose their star man and will not let him go without a fight. The onus is on the Red Devils to make the Rossoblu an offer they cannot refuse.
