"Shalekhet" or "Fallen Leaves" by Menashe Kadishman, the Jewish Museum, Berlin |

The architect Daniel Libeskind created empty shafts in several parts of the building. These "voids" extend vertically through every level of the museum building and represent destruction, loss, and absence. This one, the "Memory Void," contains an installation by the Israeli artist Menashe Kadishman titled "Shalekhet," or "Fallen Leaves." More than 10,000 faces made of heavy metal cover the floor. He has dedicated them to all innocent victims of war and
violence. |
