King Tuheitia's Tumuaki, Anaru Tamihana, has been made an Officer of the NZ Order of Merit for services to Māori. The long established role of Tumuaki in the Kingitanga was first established by Mr Tamihana's ancestor Wiremu Tamihana in 1856, and the role has since been passed down through the generations.
