The Most POWERFUL WAY To THINK 🤔 #shorts

video thumbnail
The more I live, the more I evolve in the degree to which I choose to attribute ideas and beliefs around my approach to life to any sort of political ideology. Once you attach yourself to a group, you risk acquiring groupthink.

Then, out of investment bias and fear of flip flopping or tribal heresy, you stick with a group and defend it even when their messaging has long drifted from your positions of beliefs.

By watching this short video you will learn the most powerful way to think to avoid embracing the ideology of a group and therefore thrusting yourself into static chains of groupthink danger.

I align most closely with comedian Bill Burr’s attitudes toward associations. “Fuck you and your group”— that’s how Bill would put it. What this means is that I find danger in over-identifying with any group, ideology, or movement. Once you telegraph a hard association with a group, you are then tagging yourself to the larger message that the group collectively grows to embody over time

While the dotted lines certainly exist, and I certainly care about what’s going on in the world and the reasonably attributable political causalities, I don’t find that seeing everything deliberately through a political lens is necessary, helpful, or enlightening.

Insights, principles, practices, and carefully honed attitudes and beliefs can stand quite well on their own without being slapped with some rigid political wrapper. And they certainly don’t all need to line up in some perfect check-the-box resemblance to any one ideology or platform.

Andrew Thorp King is the author of FAILURE RULES!: The 5 Rules of Failure for Entrepreneurs, Creatives, and Authentics.

He's a fintech banker, spy novelist, speaker, punk rocker, ex-bodybuilder, cigar lover, tattoo enthusiast, and serial entrepreneur. He founded two independent record labels—Thorp Records and Sailor’s Grave Records—and has invested in many spaces including online lending, fitness, lead generation, and independent music.

He is also a serial failure. He's crashed and burned through bankruptcy, divorce, mortgage default, public assistance, and multiple business failures. But, he's like a jack-in-the-box, because after every punch life hits him with, he pops back up and rebuilds his life—informed by failure—with a big smile on his face.

At first, failure sucks. But if you follow the rules of failure—seeing beyond the mess and picking through the good stuff left in the rubble—you can move forward into success.
