Paramahansa Yogananda - A brief introduction to the life of the yogi
Paramhansa Yogananda, the Father of Yoga in the West, was an Indian Hindu monk, yogi, and guru who taught meditation and Kriya Yoga to millions of people. He was a chief disciple of Bengali yoga master Swami Sri Yukteswar Giri and a leading figure in Western spirituality and self-realization. His autobiography, Autobiography of a Yogi, has been named one of the "100 best spiritual works of the twentieth century." Mahavatar Babaji, Lahiri Mahasaya, and Swami Sri Yukteswar — all three paramgurus in his spiritual lineage – personally entrusted Paramahansa Yogananda to carry out the objective of disseminating Kriya Yoga worldwide. “The formation in the West of a Self-Realization Fellowship organisation, a ‘hive for the spiritual honey,' was a duty enjoined on me by Sri Yukteswar and Mahavatar Babaji,” he wrote in Autobiography of a Yogi.
