The series followed the crime-fighting adventures of three women working at a private detective Agency in Los Angels, California and originally starred Kate Jackson, farrah Fawcett and Jaclyn Smith in the leading roles and John Forsythe lending the voice of their boss. The idea of " Charlies Angels" came following the success of " Police Woman", the first hour-long drama starring a woman. During the early pre-poduction stages of the series, producers Aaron Spelling and Leonard Goldberg first considered Kate Jackson because she had proven popular with viewers in another police television drama dubbed " The Rookies". The actor was initially cast as Kelly Garrett but she asked for the role of Sabrina Duncan and her request was granted. The star's acting career began in the late 1960s in "Summer Stock" before landing her major televison roles in Dark Shadows, The Rookies and later getting huge success due to her Sabrina role. The role saw her appear on the front cover of Time magazine alongside costars Farrah and Jaclyn. She continued acting and appeared in numerous TV movies such as Scarecrow and Mrs King, Lover Boy, and her most recent role was in the 2005-2020 Tv show "Criminal Minds". Kate has been married three times but she is currently unmarried. She has one son named Charles Taylor. Farrah Fawcett was next cast as Jil Munroe but, like her co star Jackson, she did not audition for the role. This is because Spelling had already loved her performance in the 1976 film, "Logan's Run". Fawcett began her career in the 1960s appearing in commercials and guest roles on Television. In the 1970s, she appeared in several Television series including recurring roles on " Harry O " and "The Six Dollar Million Man" with her then husband Lee Majors. ( Clip: Oliver Nelson) She is also remembered for her iconic red swimsuit poster which sold six million copies in its first year of print. Like Jackson, Fawcett's breakthrough came following her great performance in Charlie's Angels. After the series, she went on to give great performances in the Broadway play " Extremities"and in the 1984 film " The Burning Red" as well as in " Small Sacrifice". More of her appearances were in "The Late Show with David Letterman", The Apostle, The Guardian, etc. In 2006, the star was diagnosed with anal cancer and died three years later aged only 62 leaving one child. Unlike her costars Jackson and Fawcett,Jacylyn Smith auditioned for the role of Kelly Garret. But, even though the producers liked her, they were worried about hiring her since their initial concept concerned a brunette, blonde and red headed woman. Smith however was the only brunette who auditioned for the role and given her great chemistry with Jackson and Fawcett, she was later hired. After the series, she continued to appear in a number of Television movies and mini series during the 1980s and 1990s including "The Bourne Identity", "NightKill", "Jacqueline Bovier Kennedy" etc. Smith reprized her role with cameo appearances in the films "Charlie's Angels:Full Throttle", and "Charlie's Angels". Her most recent appearance was in the 2015 film " Bridal Wave". Beginning in the 1980s, she began developing and marketing her own brands of clothing and perfume and she has since then been doing great as a business woman. She is married with two children.
