Join us for a fireside chat with Sarah Bloom Raskin, former Federal Reserve Governor and Deputy Treasury Secretary, as she discusses transitioning the economy to decarbonization. Following her fireside chat, questions will be fielded from the audience. Sarah Bloom Raskin was formerly a governor of the Federal Reserve Board and deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of the Treasury under former president Barack Obama. Raskin is currently a visiting law professor and Rubenstein fellow at Duke University. Throughout her career, Raskin has been a staunch advocate for consumers and had a consistent focus on combating economic inequality, regulating the banking system, and monitoring the 'plumbing' of the economy. Prior to her service in the federal government, Raskin served as the chief financial regulator of the state of Maryland from 2007-10 where she cracked down on predatory behavior towards Main Street, particularly related to foreclosure fraud which exploded in the wake of the Financial Crisis. As Federal Reserve Governor and second in command at the Department of Treasury, Raskin was known for her progressivism on monetary and regulatory matters. After her public service, Raskin became a distinguished professor at the University of Maryland School of Law and joined the boards of i(x) investments, the Board of the Vanguard Group and Funds, several advisory boards, and the board of trustees at Amherst College and the Folger Shakespeare Library. She is now a visiting professor and Rubenstein fellow at Duke University, where she works closely with the Rethinking Regulation program and Financial Markets center, in order to improve the public's understanding of regulation and markets. |
