Mainstreaming CES in the Post-2030 Agenda for Enhancing Integrated Actions on Climate and Sustainability Goals: Towards Bridging Local-to-Global Feedback Loops
While recognising rising temperatures and continued environmental degradation, and against the backdrop of rapid urbanisation trends, there is an urgent need for stakeholders (especially in Asia) to adopt reforms that can steer human societies onto a more sustainable course. However, the current shortfalls in timely realisation of global goals and targets continue to widen, and as such, there is a genuine need for bridging the local-to-global feedback and action loops for Post-2030 Agenda. Correspondingly, in recent years, the Circulating and Ecological Sphere ‘CES’ has emerged as an integrated approach for localisation of climate and sustainable development actions, as it directs localities toward effectively utilising locally available resources to create a self-reliant and decentralised society. In that context, this session will provide a common platform to bring together diverse stakeholders, including research experts and policymakers from different parts of Asia, to deliberate on the feasibility and potential of advancing CES in accelerating climate and sustainability actions in an integrated manner. The session will also attempt to uncover some of the barriers to implementation. Discussion will aim to be in line with two of the three transformative dynamics of ISAP2023 that can accelerate sustainability transitions, namely integration and localisation. https://isap.iges.or.jp/2023/en/ps2.html |
