Positive Reinforcement

video thumbnail
Hello and WELCOME! This video focuses positive reinforcement which is defined as a stimuli added inn the environment after a target behavior occurs that results in the increased likelihood that the target behavior occurs again in the future. For example, I mention Burrhus Frederic Skinner aka B.F. Skinner's experiment in which he showed how positive reinforcement worked by placing a hungry pigeon in his Skinner box. The box contained a lever in the side and as the pigeon moved about the box it would accidentally knock the lever. When it did, food would immediately drop into a container next to the lever. The pigeons quickly learned to go straight to the lever after a few times of being put into the box. The consequence of receiving food when the pigeon pressed the lever ensured that they would repeat the action again and again.
