The Boondocks and Representation in Anime

video thumbnail
Aaron McGruder's "The Boondocks" set the bar for adult, American anime - especially as a timely lampooning of the insanity that was the mid 2000's.

A lot has happened since then - anime has grown in popularity around the world, the internet has solidified the Zeitgeist and brought artists together...but the history of minorities / "the other" in anime and animation at large should be remembered to avoid being doomed to repeat it.

So let's appreciate some creators that are helping us avoid that repetition.

Watch:
"The Boondocks" on Max
"Cannon Busters" and "Yasuke" on Netflix
"Star Wars Visions" on Disney+
"Nubian vs. Nubian" from The Boys Presents: Diabolical on Amazon
