Both classical and operant conditioning are methods of learning by association, where behaviours are habituated ( or ‘ingrained’) through frequent reinforcement.

The two methods have mutual applications in being able to shape the behaviour of both people and animals (for example in education), however the two methods are have a number of distinct differences from one another.
