The nation of Iran, as well as the historical region of greater Iran (also including regions such as Afghanistan and much of Central Asia), has a lengthy history which spans the course of over 2,500 years, and has witnessed the rise and fall of many of the world's great empires. With this latest installment, we will examine Iran's ancient history, from the arrival of the Indo-Iranian speaking Aryans onto the Iranian plateau, until an era widely considered to one of the high points in Iranian civilization, under the rule of the Neo-Persian Empire.
