I’ve hit 100,000 miles on my Tesla Model S - Here is my breakdown of the good, the bad, and the future of owning a Tesla, whether is a model 3 vs model s vs model Y. People say my Tesla is the “poo” color, but this a vintage color haha.

How to buy a Tesla? I bought my 2014 60kwh Tesla Model S from a site called TRED. I purchased it in 2018 for $29,500 and did a lot of comparing the Model S to a Model 3. And also a Tesla vs. gas car. In the end I found that this used Tesla Model S would be far less expensive over a 5 year period compared to every other car. I anticipated renting out my tesla on Turo for some side income, but 2020 wasn’t as expected given that travel down.

The tesla is still a great car with almost no car maintenance. I had to replace my 12v battery…that’s it. I don’t have data on the previous owner repairs. I’ll have to change the tires sometime soon, and the center screen freezes, but otherwise things are groovy with my tesla.

The interior of the Model 3, Model Y, and Model S are very similar but have slight differences. The Model S interior has a large back trunk with a large frunk as well. My regrets with the interior of the tesla are that there is not a spare tire (not sure how others feel about this) and my center console is not easy to organize. Otherwise the model s is spacious and the design of teslas is always so sleek and minimal.

The charging and range of teslas is the one thing that I wish I could change. But buying an electric car you should know this going in…things aren’t perfect yet. My car only has 189 miles in range at the moment given it’s age and original range capacity. I’ve tried to do a range upgrade but Tesla says it is not available anymore. Charging a tesla or EV is easy. I use a normal wall outlet. You can also use a bigger 220v outlet for faster car charging. Superchargers are nice but they are obviously slower than filling up with gas...but you’re helping to save the environment.

Roadtrips in a Tesla are very comfortable given the interior and the space, but the charging can be a bit of an inconvenience. if you have a 250+ mile car then you wouldn’t run into too many problems, but since mine is sub-200 it is a bit inconvenient to do a 3 hour roundtrip roadtrip.

The tech in Teslas is amazing. They are software on wheels and the car is basically a living thing that can update and get better. For Teslas vs gas cars the tech sets Tesla apart by a lot. My used tesla is older so the computer doesn’t get as many options. Eventually I think Elon Musk will share resources and features with his other companies like Starlink, Neuralink, and Boring Company. So much great tech that Tesla can use.

So if you are thinking of buying a tesla, a used tesla, or trying to figure out how to buy a tesla, my opinion is that I love this car. It’s so easy to drive and just a great piece of engineering!
