This is a Mobile Anti-Aircraft Missile System Avenger |
|
The Army's flagship shoot-on-the-move air defence weapon is the fully automated, short-range Avenger air defence system. It is a lightweight, highly mobile, and readily transportable surface-to-air missile firing unit with two missile pods containing eight Stinger missiles. It finds, identifies, follows, and fires at targets (low-flying helicopters or fixed-wing aircraft) from a still or moving position.
Mounted atop a versatile, high-mobility wheeled vehicle, the Avenger is capable of operating in adverse weather situations. It can find targets both during the day and at night with its infrared system, computer, communications gear, and laser rangefinder. The Avenger turret is easily adaptable to a variety of combat vehicles, including trucks, trailers, and track vehicles, and may even be utilised as a remotely operated autonomous unit. Its system is highly automated to aid the gunner quickly and effectively with target localization, identification, tracking, and lock-on. Automatic insertion of lead angle and superelevation during missile launch optimises the system's overall performance. When palletized, the Avengers can be transported by helicopter and dropped from tactical aircraft. Avenger of Mobile Anti-Aircraft Missile Systems |
