“The Future of Higher Education – Nine Mega Trends” book was released by Shri. M. Venkaiah Naidu, Hon’ble Vice President of India
30 June 2020: Hon’ble Vice President of India – Shri. M. Venkaiah Naidu virtually released a book on “Future of Higher Education – Nine Mega Trends” @ 10.30 AM. The Virtual event, hosted by ICT Academy has also featured notable industry leaders such as Shri CA T N Manoharan – Chairman, Canara Bank, Shri Lakshmi Narayanan – Chairman, ICT Academy & Emeritus Vice Chairman, Cognizant, Shri CA Pattabhi Ram V – Author, Teacher and Shri M Sivakumar – Chief Executive Officer, ICT Academy. The entire session was moderated by Dr. Anbuthambi B, President, ICT Academy. Authored by CA V Pattabhi Ram, Author, Public Speaker, and Teacher, it is based on a survey of around 5000 educators across India, who were part of ICT Academy’s “SkyCampus” Digital Knowledge Series. The book will cover the new norms in the key areas of higher education such as Student-Teacher relationship, Learning methods, Laboratories, Examinations, etc; all taking a paradigm shift during this COVID pandemic. Hon’ble Vice President on the address mentioned the following. As we have gathered today, we are in the midst of another global battle. While we will win the on-going battle, life will not be the same again. We should count all the consequences inflicted by this pandemic and bounce back together. Amidst such trying times, I am happy to know about the efforts of ICT Academy, a non-profit society, which is an initiative of the Government of India and the state governments, has been addressing the industry-institute divide across the nation for more than a decade now. I discern, ICT Academy has been actively battling the COVID crisis, continuing to serve the academic community through its various initiatives such as “SkyCampus”, a digital online initiative to support academic institutions across India, by bringing together educators and the industry leaders. On these lines, the education landscape of India has been seeing a sea of change since the pandemic outbreak. Today, ICT Academy has brought out “Future of Higher Education - Nine Megatrends”, an insightful document with precise forecasts. Further, India is in the experimental phase of digital libraries. As we step into the third decade of the 21st century, it is clear that digital libraries will be the way forward. Here’s why. One can carry hordes of books on a smartphone. Better still, everyone has access to the same information, making knowledge-seeking secular. Technological advancements will lead to the global availability of a large variety of multimedia content. Online content will increasingly be the basis of research. It would be wonderful if sitting in a remote village in India, someone can access a book in the library at Harvard. With online laboratories, students can access machines anytime from anywhere and can practice before getting into a real lab. Virtual labs use AR and VR, which increase interest, attention, and curiosity. Videos, animations, and demonstrations make learning impactful. A virtual lab eliminates ethical dilemmas and fatal safety hazards. The government has aided the public education system in rural India. The private education system, more prevalent in aspirational urban India, is earmarked by modern infrastructure, state-of-the-art facilities, and affordability of the students to have better amenities in learning. All this is set to change. The Government may convert corporation schools into Centres of Excellence, either on its own or in collaboration with private players. Philanthropists and corporate India will work in tandem to take primary education to the grassroots level in a big way. In the future, universities will be affordable and accessible to all. Universities will develop new models that will integrate academic changes and teaching models. All these concerted efforts would create a beautiful place of living, teaching, and learning. With concluding remarks, Hon’ble Vice President wished ICT Academy all success in its endeavours that augment the nation-building exercises and the guests of honour besides appreciating the book “Future of Higher Education – Nine Mega Trends” mentioning as one-of-its-kind, indigenous future scanner for the academia to plan its path in creating the next generation talent pool.
