International Women’s day (IWD) is a global event that celebrates Women's successes and raises awareness of inequality by challenging gender stereotypes to achieve equality and incusion for all Women. This global social movement, which dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, celebrates women’s economic, political and social equality. In celebration of this event, the Civil Service College will be contributing by delivering free informative webinars between the 8th-12th March, with the aim of helping to raise the voices of women and achieve women’s empowerment, not just here in the U.K. but globally!
Ending discrimination against women and girls is not only a basic human right but is also imperative in order to achieve sustainable development. It is a known fact that empowering women and girls, has an increased effect and helps boost economic growth and development. In September 2015, the General Assembly adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development that includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Building on the principle of “leaving no one behind”, this agenda emphasises a holistic approach to achieving sustainable development for all. In this IWD webinar, we will be joined by speakers Meg Munn, Former Minister for Women and Equality and Cecilia Passaniti Mezzano, Membership Secretary of Women’s International League for People and Freedom U.K. who will be delivering an informative session on Sustainable Goal 5 – ‘Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls and what it’s agenda aims to achieve by 2030. We will be hearing from both the U.K. and an International perspective on the following areas: What are Sustainable Development goals and what does Sustainable Goal (SDG) 5 specifically aim to achieve? How the U.K. is committed to delivering SDG 5 An international perspective of Sustainable Goal 5 – how are we doing globally? How Covid-19 may impact in achieving SDG 5 by 2030 – what can we do to support women? Joint collaborative discussion with speakers |
