Mitigation and Resilience: Hospitals taking climate action |
|
Approximately 5% of greenhouse gas emissions in Canada come from the health care system. With the growing reality of the climate crisis and the impacts of the extreme weather events we have already starting to witness, it is more important than ever that health care facilities take steps to reduce their carbon emissions and ensure their facilities are climate resilient.
Join the Canadian Coalition for Green Health Care, PEACH Health Ontario, and CASCADES as we welcome representatives from Health Care Without Harm (HCWH), The Integrated Health and Social Services Center (CISSS), Synergie Santé Environnement (SSE) and the New St Paul’s Hospital Project, in Vancouver, B.C to describe their actions on climate change mitigation and resilience. Agenda: - Learn about the United Nations backed global campaign Race to Zero from their health care partner HCWH and how health care institutions can access a network of tools, resources and people to assist them in reducing their carbon footprint, implementing successful sustainability projects and programs, and achieving the ambition of zero emissions. - CISSS of Laval then discusses how they carried out a detailed estimate of their annual Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouses gas emissions with the help of SSE, and share how they plan to use the results to reduce their carbon footprint. - Lastly we hear from the New St. Paul’s Hospital Project, in Vancouver, B.C which is being designed specifically for sustainability, resilience and wellness with a goal of becoming as carbon neutral as possible. Their presentation will outline the key tools used to embed climate change resilience and low carbon/electrification strategies throughout the design process. Presented live on May 4th, 2023 |
