PAK vs NZ 1st Test Live Commentary By Sports Updates by sudhanshu Hello and welcome to the live coverage of the two-match Test series between Pakistan and New Zealand. The first match of the series is taking place at the National Stadium in Karachi. It's going to be a treat for all the core cricket fans as what's regarded to be as ' The Boxing Day' will see two fascinating Test matches on the line. Firstly it is Australia versus South Africa at the iconic MCG. Secondly New Zealand have reached the shores of Karachi for the first of the two-match Test series between both nations. Both sides collided against each other before the 2022 T20 World Cup in a Tri-series of the T20I format where Pakistan edged past the Kiwis. Both sides have been a victim of the Baz-Ball approach of England cricket and underwent clean-sweeps. New Zealand witnessed it some six months back and the Asian side faced it a week back. Both sides are out of the qualification scenario for the World Test Championship and therefore will look to bring their flamboyance into the act. Team News (New Zealand): New Zealand last played a Test series half a dozen months back against England. This series will see a resumption in their red-ball format after a long pause from the extended format. It was a shambolic defeat for the Kiwis as the Baz-ball approach thoroughly eclipsed the visitors and white-washed them 3-0. Dane Cleaver and Hamish Rutherford have been dropped from the Test side against England. Moreover Trent Boult has opted out of the national contract and is a free agent. Canterbury leg-spinner Ish Sodhi has been called up in the National side for the red-ball format after 4 years. Alongside Sodhi Glenn Phillips has also been reckoned after his impressive white ball performances. Earlier Phillips played a solitary Test match. But amidst all of these the big update is that Kane Williamson will not be leading the red-ball side as he stepped down from captaincy. Tim Southee will be leading the unit instead. Team News (Pakistan): In a recent development the Shahid Afridi-led interim selection committee of Pakistan have added three players - Shahnawaz Dahani Mir Hamza and Sajid Khan in their previous squad for the New Zealand Test. Pakistan weren’t just beaten by Bazball they were battered and demoralized 3-0 by Bazball. Now as the year draws to a close Babar Azam’s side have a chance to lick their wounds and end on a high as New Zealand come touring for a two match Test series. That 3-0 home loss has caused a severe ripple effect in Pakistan costing PCB chairman Ramiz Raja his job and bringing Shahid Afridi at the helm as interim selector. The hosts will also be without Azhar Ali who announced his retirement giving a potential debut to Kamran Ghulam. Pakistan arrives from a horrendous defeat in their own yard against England. Once again it was the Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum duo that enforced a whitewash and this time on Asian soil. This brought tumultuous in the minds of the Pakistan cricket setup and the leadership of Babar Azam was questioned. Pakistan have four primary spinners in their ranks which include Nauman Ali Zahid Mahmood Abrar Ahmed and Sajid Khan. What to expect: 'Spin it to win it' worked just last week when Jack Leach and debutant Rehan Ahmed picked seven wickets each across the two innings for the visitors. Pakistan too had success through the leg spinner as Abrar Ahmed bagged seven wickets too. Ish Sodhi who last played a Test in November 2018 should enjoy his return.
