A crowd-farming idea that could make you rich | Ntuthuko Shezi | TEDxJohannesburg

Value. How do we define it? How do we store it? For centuries, African people have stored their value in cows, and from that they derived life-sustaining milk for nutrients, beef for meat, skin for clothes, horns for weapons, and cow dung for fuel. Today, the stock market is where the bulk of humanity’s value is stored, in the form of an increasingly complex and somewhat unfamiliar—if not downright intimidating—matrix of shares and bonds and derivatives. In this fascinating talk, Ntuthuko tells the story of how he’s building a stock market of a different kind—one that combines an understanding of modern-day financial tools with old and familiar concepts of livestock farming, to deliver a crowd-sourced investment platform that everyone can understand. Hopefully, it's also one we can all make a ton of money from.

Ntuthuko Shezi has always enjoyed creating things. After graduating from the University of Cape Town with an engineering degree, he found himself at Accenture, the global consultancy. He proceeded to rise rapidly through the ranks. When the inevitable entrepreneurship bug bit, he duly embarked on a journey to dream up businesses, build them and then sell them. His latest idea uses technology and crowdfunding to unlock the full investment value of cows.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx
