Anytime Fitness: What to know before joining this gym (Pros & Cons) |
|
This video is all over the place... See a quick summary of pros/cons below:
*Edit: Some have said that their membership is $30/month, but I think this is probably the minimum price you'll find. PROS: 1. Great option for someone who travels a lot. There are a ton of these gyms all across the U.S. They're especially prevalent in more rural areas that don't have other gym options. 2. They are open 24/7 so you can workout at whatever time is most convenient. 3. The gym is rarely crowded. Mornings and early evenings are busiest, but typically not too bad. 4. They have barbells and squat racks (as opposed to planet that just has smith machines). CONS: 1. Overall, expect pushy sales tactics by the club manager and trainers. This gym is primarily focused on trying to maximize their profits. 2. You're probably going to be paying upwards of $40 a month for a BASIC membership. This is with a long-term contract. If you want go month-to-month, the price is OUTRAGEOUS. 3. If your location offers personal or group training sessions/packages make sure you FULLY understand what you're signing up for. They will likely try to mislead you about the true cost and may trick you into signing long-term recurring contracts that carry a penalty for cancellation. I would honestly hold off on working with any of their trainers until you have some time to watch them and see how they train. You might try a free session if it's offered, but don't feel pressured to continue if you're not into it. 4. If you do sign up for training, expect your trainers to change often. Not sure how they pay/treat their training staff, but in my experience good trainers don't stay long. 5. When you want to cancel a contract, they'll make you do it in person AND will likely try to continue charging you even after you've cancelled. So watch your bank account or credit card statements to make sure the charges actually stop. I don't want to fully discourage anyone from joining, but just know what you're getting into. If you're looking for a basic gym that's nearby and open 24/7 it will probably be fine. But honestly, if there's a locally owned gym that's cheaper (or even a Planet Fitness nearby) I'd probably choose those over Anytime.
