video thumbnail
Is there life beyond learning? What role do the arts and culture play in education? Lynn Yau considers the topic of the arts as it relates to not only cultural education, but also as to a catalyst for personal and social change - and her opinion that experiencing the arts can bring about transformative change. Lynn Yau heads The Absolutely Fabulous Theatre Connection, a bilingual learning theatre under the LCSD’s venue partnership scheme. She graduated from the University of Hong Kong with degrees in Literature and Education. Since 1976, she has been a lead actress for the Seals Players. She is also a co-founder of Eduarts, which caters to the needs of students with varying English ability with their classroom theatre approach. Biennially, she teaches the Arts Engagement & Education module at the Hong Kong Institute of Education’s Executive Master of Arts in Arts Management and Cultural Entrepreneurship. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
