Building Innovation | Duzan Doepel | TEDxRotterdam |
|
Sustainable design is about people. Tackling societal issues such as climate change, resource depletion and inequality is part of what design can do. Achieving this ambition necessitates an interdisciplinary approach. Working with experts across the spectrum, from science to art delivers the best solutions for these complex issues. Participation planning and user cantered design are essential components in our integral approach to sustainability.
Born, raised and partly educated in Johannesburg. In South Africa, a circular and inclusive approach to design is a necessity. Circular because resources are scarce. Inclusive because the building process and operation should empower people with poor labour prospects. Climate and resource efficient design are a basic part of the education as an architect in this context. This approach to design is what Duzan Doepel has brought into his practice in Holland. University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, Bachelor of Architectural Studies (cum laude) Rotterdam Academy of Architecture, Masters Diploma, (cum laude). This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx |
