Life in the Middle Ages, between the fifth and the fifteenth centuries, was hard. Long before the discovery of penicillin, the people accepted that death was going to be with them sooner rather than later. Infections spread quickly and there were no inoculations, no cures and no defences against the misery it could inflict on the people of medieval England.
