Installing 305 Chevy TPI Engine and Fuel Tank Sludge- 3rd Gen Camaro - EP#17 IROC-Z Barn Find |
![]() |
The 305 Tuned Port engine in this 3rd Gen Camaro is reinstalled. I chose to install it without the intake, valve covers and accessories. The fuel tank is removed and you can see the rusty sludge and the overall poor condition of the internal parts of the tank. This is what happens when it sits for 25 years with 10 gallons of bad gas! The intake and valve covers are installed and there is explanation of the next steps in the rebuild sequence.
Background: "Barn find" 1985 IROC-Z Z28 Camaro with Tuned Port (TPI) LB9 engine that has been parked for 25 years. The original owner passed away and his father sold the car to me. What will be required to make this car run again after being parked for so long? It has just over 101,000 miles, all the parts are there, and it seems to be in overall good condition with the exception of the engine and fuel system. |
