Soldier Boy - The Shirelles (Stereo Mix) [Recreation] [Cover] |
|
"Soldier Boy" is a beautiful song written by Luther Dixon and Florence Greenberg and made famous by the girl group The Shirelles.
It’s a very sentimental song about love and departure (going off to the army) The Shirelles were an american vocal group popular in the late 1950s and early 60s, one of the first and most successful so-called “girl groups” Both Lennon and McCartney had a big admiration for The Shirelles. They covered two of their tunes on their debut album "Please Please Me" : "Boys" and "Baby It’s You". Also McCartney stated that "PS I Love You" was modeled after The Shirelles' "Soldier Boy" as a love letter being read out loud. In this version I did some changes in the lyrics altering the gender pronouns (as Ringo did on "Boys") and also transported the song to G major to fit my vocal range (original is in Bb Major) But I tried to keep the feel and instrumentation as close as posible to the original 1962 recording. Hope you enjoy it!
