In this video Maxx converts what he considers to be a "factory freak" Nerf Doublestrike into an Old West, Modern, Zombie or Post-Apocalyptic blaster.

Maxx follows the same techniques from his other videos, to take this stock blaster from the store shelf to the wasteland. First step is always removing any logos and badging, then sanding the blaster down a bit. In this video though, we approach the paint process differently by not using spray paints, but instead using cheap craft paints and sealing it in with polyurethane and shellac. Clear coat is enough to seal in layers, but for the final coat, it'll need some endurance, so use a thicker product, like shellac, polyurethane, etc.

During this video, you'll see the blaster in many forms, from stock to mild to beyond. So depending on when your apocalypse occurred, your blaster or item will look quite different. This particular blaster was made for the far future. And during this video you can see several points, where I could've stopped and called it a day several times, depending on how far after the apocalypse my game was set.

When distressing an item, I feel it's a good habit to make whatever the object your creating is, look basically factory new. Get it to a new looking version of the object and then begin your distressing. I feel that this allows you to tell a story with the object and gives a more real appearance to the final product. It does take a little longer, but I feel it's worth it. The more layers the better.

Troubleshooting Steps:

1. Don't get paint down inside the blaster, it can freeze up parts and impact the firing mechanisms

2. Be patient

3. If you are using the craft style paint I am using in this video. It flakes off if scraped with anything, even a toothpick. And it is water-based, so if you do something you don't like, wash it off and try again.

4. Once you get it to a point you think it looks good, either stop. Or, hit it with clear to lock in that level before you proceed. That way if you don't like the additional paint, you should be able to rinse it off, without harming the first layer.

5. Don't try to do it all in an afternoon. Can you? Sure. Just nail it with flat black or silver spray paint, once it's dry to touch smear it or wash it with brown paints and wipe off. Hit it with clear. Done. But I'd suggest doing this over several days, take your time.

*Any custom work is at your own risk. Even us folks on YouTube trash a blaster here and there... There is always a chance you'll destroy your blaster, so proceed at your own risk. I hold no liability for damages of any kind, do not try anything in this video at home. I am a trained professional.*

~This was made more as a costume piece and occasional 1 shot deal inside a building or something. It wasn't meant as a primary blaster. As such, I sacrificed the lower barrel and this is difficult to load. It actually requires a small dowel to push the dart in. So keep that in mind if you attempt yourself. ~
