The United States has a very deep relationship with speech. Free speech is regarded as a fundamental right with few restrictions, giving an equal voice to tolerance and intolerance. Acceptable speech has many more restrictions, and the two often clash. This all begs the question, how can we maintain a tolerant society when hate is free to express its speech? Stephan has always held a fascination for understanding the world around him. In school this manifests in him leading the club Students United for Black Awareness, where he can analyze and discuss systems of social oppression, and in a fervent passion for sciences such as psychology and physics.
