Why Daredevil BORN AGAIN is the True Sequel to AVENGERS ENDGAME |
|
Daredevil: Born Again is going to finally continue the story of Matt Murdock in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But what does the title mean? Is it a loyal adaptation of the classic comics storyline? Or does it refer to the repercussions of Avengers: Endgame, with the snap and blip erasing Matt Murdock, and empowering the underworld ruled by the Kingpin?

And what the “Born Again” title could mean for the man without fear. [clip] We think that the show will be heavily inspired by Frank Miller’s Born Again comic. But that in typical MCU fashion, they’ll take many liberties. [clip] We think that the “Born Again” title is not only a meta reference to the relaunch of Charlie Cox’s Daredevil. But that it is also referring to Matt Murdock having been blipped by Thanos’ snap in Avengers Infinity War. And then “born again” when he returns following Hulk’s snap in Avengers Endgame. [clip, Hulk snapping.] So just a refresher on the MCU’s blips and how they worked. When Thanos snapped his fingers in Avengers Infinity War, half of all sentient life in the universe dusted away. [clip] But then in Avengers Endgame when Hulk snapped his fingers, he brought back everyone Thanos snapped away. Those who came back returned to the same place they were when they vanished five years prior. Doug: What if they were in an airplane? Do they just blip back to that same place in the sky only to fall to their death? Ryan: Good question. Kevin Feige has clarified that when Hulk snapped. Part of his command was that everyone be returned SAFELY. Which means that those who were mid-flight would be blipped back safely on the ground. [clip] MCU Disney Plus series have shown us characters dusting and then returning. Such as Yelana Belova in Hawkeye. [clip, Yelana] And Monica Rambeau in WandaVision. [clip, Monica] We think it’d be fun to see Daredevil: Born Again do the same. Show us the moment Matt Murdock blipped away. Imagine Matt standing in his Law Office working on a case. Maybe even contemplating what he needs to do following the alien invasion that occurred just a few hours earlier–right there in New York City. [clip, Black Order coming to earth in Infinity War] And then with Matt’s heightened senses he feels the effects of the snap beginning to take place. He hears screams echoing throughout the entire city. And then, like Spider-Man, he senses that something is happening to him. [clip, Spider-Man “I don’t feel so good.”] Matt dusts away. And then when he returns he finds himself standing in the rubble of what was once his law office. And he’ll surely be wondering to himself. [clip, WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!] During the chaos that followed Thanos’ snap, Kingpin was able to escape prison. And the first thing he did was go to find his beloved wife, Vanessa. [clip, VANESSA!] When Kingpin discovers that Vanessa is gone, dusted away, he is enraged. [clip, Kingpin freaking out.] He then makes his way to the law offices of Nelson, Murdock, and Page. With Vanessa dead, Kingpin has no reason to hold up his end of the bargain that he and Matt made during their last encounter. [clip, Kingpin saying he’ll kill Foggy, Karen, etc. and Daredevil saying that if he does he’ll come for Vanessa.] Kingpin then decides that he is going to exact revenge on the people who put him away. The people who kept him from Vanessa. Matt of course has dusted, but Karen and Foggy were left behind. And even though Matt is who Kingpin hates the most, don’t forget that he loathes Karnen Page. [clip, Kingpin screaming in Karen’s face.] We think what happens next could pan out several ways, depending on how brutal Marvel wants to go. Doug: But hope, I must know! Well… [ad] Welcome back. One option is that we could see Kingpin order a hit on Foggy and Karen and then their law office be blown up. Or maybe even blowup with them in it. But option B is to see Kingpin kill them himself with his bare hands. [clip, Walter White “I prefer option B.”] |
