US healthcare – what’s next? | Tom Vogt | TEDxSanJuanIsland |
|
After 30 years of fruitless debate, what must we do to fix the world's most costly and inefficient health care system? Dr. Vogt is a piano playing physician-epidemiologist with extensive experience in health behavior change, health services research, collaborative clinical trials, and cardiovascular and cancer epidemiology. He has served on the faculties of UCLA, the Oregon Health and Sciences University, and the University of Hawaii, but preferred the collaborative, population, and multidisciplinary approach of Kaiser Permanente’s Center for Health Research (CHR) where he was employed for 29 years - 19 in Portland and 10 in Hawaii. His research focused on improving disease management and preventive care and reducing health care costs through innovative uses of electronic medical records. Since retiring in 2010 he has joined a band, and drafted a book on our dysfunctional health care system. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
