Tips For Beginning Runners |
|
(KUTV) Studies have shown that running reduces the risk of heart disease and it can help build confidence. But if you have never been much of a runner, where do you begin? Experts say you need to begin with shoes. Doctor David Brinton is a sports medicine physician at Riverton Hospital. He says shoes need to be at least a half size bigger than your actual shoe size. I would recommend that you find a good shoe that is comfortable for you. The next thing you need to do is set some goals. You should pick a race that you want to do in the next couple of months and start training. Doctor Brinton says you should start slow and then push yourself as you get closer to the race. He also says to do more than just run every day. As we get older, we develop less stability in our joints and then you go and run and you get problems because we havent developed our core strength in our hips so cross training is very important. Some examples of cross training would be biking, swimming, or lifting weights. Riverton Hospital will be hosting a free seminar later this month.
