Fighting Racism in Europe and Worldwide - with Alice Kuhnke, MEP, and Marvin Rees, Mayor of Bristol |
|
Sergey Lagodinsky from the European Parliament discusses with two extraordinary guests:
Alice Bah Kuhnke is Member of the European Parliament in the Greens/EFA Group. She served as Swedish Minister for Culture and Democracy from 2014 to 2019 and is a renown TV personality and activist in her country. Marvin Rees, Mayor of Bristol was elected Mayor in 2016. He has been an advocate for racial equality, social justice and sustainability already in his previous roles as journalist and leading public servant. He is the founder of the Bristol Leadership Programme, a two-week programme helping people from impoverished backgrounds to attain what they aspire to. The topic of our one hour conversation is straight forward: What is the extent of the racism-problem in Europe and how do we effectively address beyond mere rituals and appeals. Two weeks after George Floyd‘s murder, we will try to find answers to racist patterns that lead to so much suffering and discrimination in our times: How does the powerful Black Lives Matter movement influence politics in the UK, in Sweden, in Europe as a whole? Which steps come next on the local, national and global scale in the fight against racism? |
