Brandon is passionate about creating wealth in communities of color and addressing the affordable housing crisis. His first real estate development didn’t end up being as profitable as he had hoped, however he kept going and to date has done $100 million in real estate development

1) Developers are the last to get paid on a project. From the financial perspective, prepare to play the long game and don’t underestimate the countless lessons you’ll learn along the way, not only around business and project management but around mindset and resilience as well.

2) While it’s important to stay resilient in spite of the obstacles, it’s almost equally important to know when to give up. A mentor once told Brandon: “One of the best deals you’ll ever do is the one you didn’t.”

3) Real estate is a relationship business, especially commercial real estate. Always try to find a way to get into the same room with decision makers in your city, and engage in mutually beneficial conversations where you demonstrate the value you can offer them.
