Minnale is a 2001 romantic Tamil film written and directed by Gautham Menon. The film featured Madhavan, Abbas, Reemma Sen, Vivek and Nagesh.
Rajiv Samuel (Abbas) is a computer engineering student and is one of the top students in the college, whereas Rajesh (R. Madhavan) is a mechanical engineering student who is the bad guy of the college. A mutual problem between the two groups led by both Samuel and Rajesh puts both Sam and Rajesh at loggerheads and they pull pranks on each other to get the other in trouble.
Rajesh (Madhavan) has his first crush on Reena Joseph (Reema Sen), who unfortunately, is engaged to be married to Rajiv whom Reena has only talked to on the phone but has yet to meet. In an effort to gain her heart, Rajesh impersonates Rajiv and gets close to Reena, aided by his grandfather (Nagesh) and his crooked sidekick (Vivek). Will Reena recognise Rajesh? Madhavan is one of the most versatile actors who has set his strong foot on not only the Tamil Film Industry but also the Hindi film fraternity. Madhavan gained recognition in the Tamil film industry through Mani Ratnam's successful romantic film Alaipayuthey (2000). Madhavan developed an image as a romantic hero with films like Minnale, Dumm Dumm, Anbe Sivam, Aayutha Ezhuthu, Run, etc. Minnale’ was remade in Hindi as ‘Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein’ marking Madhavan’s debut into the mainstream Bollywood movies. Although Madhavan hasn’t played many lead roles in Bollywood movies, his cameo as well as supporting roles such as in ‘Rang De Basanti’, ‘Guru’, ‘Mumbai Mere Jaan’ are much appreciated and critically acclaimed too. His role in ‘3 Idiots’ won him a nomination in the prestigious Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor category. His recent release 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns' has turned out to be this year's biggest blockbuster.
