The Scales and Arpeggios to Use in the Blues and How to Practice Them |
|
Welcome to this weeks lesson! Let's dive into some basic tools we need to start building a Blues vocabulary.
Many of the notes used in the Blues fall within the major and minor pentatonic scales. As I demonstrate, we can make great sounding solos with that alone but, if we want to dive deeper into outlining each chord change, we need to know our arpeggios. I'll show you exactly how I go about practicing these scales and arpeggios by grouping them together in 5 different positions. These scales and arpeggios provide us with a blueprint for many of the notes we can use to be expressive over the Blues and, by mapping them out all over the fretboard, we can play start to play with freedom!
